Social Skills Class

Thank you for your interest in the Social Skills Classes at the University of California Irvine Child Development Center. The groups focus on development of specific skills and improvement of peer relations in children ages 5 - 11.

Course Objectives: The coordinated parent-child Social Skills Class focuses on learning new social skills including: being a good sport and good friend; making and keeping friends; anger control; problem solving techniques; and expressing feelings appropriately. The groups are designed to be fun as well as educational. Parent and child groups are coordinated so that progress made in the groups can be supported and maintained at home. Groups are organized by age with the younger group composed of 5-8 year olds and the older group composed of 9-11 year olds.

Course Structure: The course is 8 weeks in length and meets once a week from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm. Both parents and children attend the course but meet in separate groups.

Cost: The total cost of the course is $720.00 and covers one child and two parents/caregivers. The cost for additional children in the same family is $360.00 each.

Enrollment: The course is designed to address problems typically found in children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and related behavior and learning problems, however the course is appropriate for all children and does not require a diagnosis of ADHD.

To enroll in the course, please download, print, and fill out the confidential patient registration form. Then, mail the registration form along with a non-refundable $50 deposit, in the form of a check made out to "UC Regents," to the CDC School, 19262 Jamboree Rd, Irvine, CA, 92612. Please write "Parent Training" on the registration form and memo line of your check. The deposit will be taken out of the total cost of the course leaving the balance to be paid at the first session of the class. We strongly recommend attending the Parent Training Class first. If you would like to register for Parent Training as well, you need only submit one registration form per child; we will use the information on your child's registration form to enroll you in Parent Training. The non-refundable $50 deposit applies per child for the Social Skills Class and per couple for the Parent Training class. You may submit a single check for the total amount of the deposits. Please write both "Parent Training" and "Social Skills" on the registration form and memo line of your check.
