Enrollment Information

Admission into the Child Development Center School typically requires a diagnosis of ADHD. If your child does not have a current evaluation, you will need to complete an evaluation prior to beginning the admissions process.  The CDC Clinic offers evaluation services.

Admissions Process

There are two steps in the CDC School admission process:

1. CDC Psychosocial Assessment

The first step is a psycho-social evaluation by a CDC School psychologist to determine if our program meets your family's needs. All medical and/or psychological reports must be forwarded to our office together with the completed forms. After all reports (including 2 signed consent forms made out to school/teacher and psychiatrist/psychologist) are reviewed, the parent(s) meet with a CDC School psychologist. This one-hour assessment serves to help develop an initial treatment plan for each potential student. After the psychosocial assessment, an appointment for your child will be schedulded to meet for a brief academic assessment. Within approximately 2-3 weeks of the completion of the psychosocial and academic assessments, the treatment team for the classroom will meet to decide if CDC is an appropriate placement. After the treatment team meeting, the parent(s) will be notified regarding the appropriateness of the program for the child. If it is determined that your family's needs would be met by the CDC School, the next step is for you and the CDC School to contact your child's district to inform them that you are applying to our program. If space is unavailable at the completion of the assessment, your child will be placed on our waiting list.

2. School District Review

If your child has an active IEP, the district will arrange for an IEP meeting to be held in which they will review your child's IEP. If your child does not have an active IEP, the district will be informed that you are applying to the CDC School and will then arrange a student study team meeting. A CDC School psychologist will attend the meeting to confirm that our program would be a consideration for your child's educational needs. This step assures that all educational options for your child are considered in order to assure that your child receives an appropriate educational program. If it is determined that the CDC School is an appropriate program, the district, at their discretion, may authorize an inter-district transfer of your child from your home district to the Orange County Department of Education. The Orange County Department of Education is the public school that your child will be attending as part of our collaborative program. Your child must be granted an inter-district transfer before they can enroll in the CDC School.
