Parent Training Class
Thank you for your interest in the Parent Training Classes at the University of California Irvine Child Development Center. The class is designed to empower parents to be proactive in addressing parent-child problems through the use of skills learned in the class.
Course Objectives: Parents are the primary agents of change for their child's behavior.
In this course, parents learn to increase the frequency of desirable behaviors in their children and to reduce the likelihood of undesirable behaviors. The purpose of the Parent Training Class at the Child Development Center is to train parents in the use of specific behavior modification techniques to improve the child's behavior and to enhance the quality of parent-child interactions. The class is designed for parents with children ages 3 to 12 years old.
Course Structure: The course is 6 weeks in length and meets once a
week on Tuesday evening from 6:30 until 8:30 pm. The class meets in a group setting at the CDC School. During the meetings, participants are introduced to concepts of behavior management through viewing videotapes, discussions, role-playing and weekly home practice assignments. During the course parents are contacted and offered assistance with practice assignments. By the end of the course parents will have designed a home behavior program to improve their child's behavior.
Cost: The total cost of the course is $480.00 and covers two
parents/caregivers.
Enrollment: The course is designed to address problems typically
found in children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and
related behavior and learning problems, however the course is appropriate for
all children and does not require a diagnosis of ADHD.
